| Herbs for Pregnancy |

Herbs can be a big help when going through the thrilling, but sometimes uncomfortable joy, of pregnancy. Here are a few to try: (All herbs mentioned can be taken in the form of tea, or tinctures. When teas are taken, it usually means making a strong cup of tea, usually 2-3 times a day. Tinctures are taken as 1/2 teaspoon 2-3 times a day.)* Ginger: recommended for morning sickness. Drink ginger tea or "ginger-ale", or take ginger capsules (ginger tea with milk and honey will also help raise blood sugar.) Note: not more than 1/4 tsp. in a cup of tea. Do not use excessive amounts of ginger, and avoid it if you have a history of miscarriage. *Spirulina is an incredible aquatic plant that is higher protein than meat and supplies almost all vitamins and minerals in a very compact form. It is ideal in cases where almost no food can be tolerated. It nourishes, and builds up blood volume quickly. * Red Raspberry Leaf. (Rubus Ideaus, or Rubus Dioica) This is an herb rich in numerous vitamins and minerals, especially iron. Raspberry leaf is best known for strengthening the uterine muscles so they work more efficiently during labor. * Nettles. (Urtica Dioica) This contains high levels of calcium, iron and protein, as well as an excellent source of folic acid, an essential nutrient during pregnancy. *Marshmallow Root(Althea Rt.) Excellent to prevent and treat dehydration.Builds up blood volume quickly, very nourishing. * Chamomile. This is a great calming agent and helps with digestive disorders including nausea. It also has some anti-inflammatory properties. * Butcher's Broom(Ruscus Aesculus) excellent for varicose veins and safe during pregnancy. * Black Haw (Viburnum Prunifolium) or Crampbark (Viburnum Opulus) can be used to stop early contractions during pregnancy, and Prevention of Early Miscarriage Stress or Anxiety or Insomnia herbs can help calm emotionally. *Lemon Balm(Mellissa) gentle mood booster * Scullcap (Scutelaria Latefloria)relieves pain, as well as calm and relax the body. *Passiflora helps pain, as well as calm and relax the body. * Chamomile helps control pain during labor by relieving tension. * Motherwort(Leonorus Cardiaca) is one of the best herbs to give immediate emotional balance during the ups and downs of labor, but only small amounts. |
